We tried to settle into a new routine once it was down to just the five of us....
Lots of soccer watching...
Hugs all around....
Lettuce heads....otherwise known as homemade cabbage patch girl!
And we even attempted a 4th of July celebration. It did not go well. We did a little bbq with just the five of us and then were going to check out the city's 4th of July 'spectacular'. Of course, the camera died after only one picture, but that's ok, because it ended up being super lame with nothing for the girls to do and so ridiculously hot that we left as soon as we'd made the rounds and verified that we weren't missing anything.
We salvaged the afternoon by stopping at McDonald's for ice cream cones to cool off. That night, Eve and I went out to see fireworks while Andrew stayed home with the sleeping Halle and Abigail. The fireworks were awesome! The streets were super crowded with everyone trying to get to see them, so we stopped in the Hobby Lobby parking lot with a lot of other on-lookers and watched from there. It was a great view and the weather was perfect! Eve really enjoyed them, although the highlight of the evening was probably her screaming out in excitement, "Look, Mom, Taco Bell!" The people around us got a good laugh out of that - fast food being more interesting that fireworks....
We (maybe mostly me) were very disappointed to not spend the 4th with family as it's one of my favorite holidays and nothing beats a huge family celebration, but we'll hold out for next year. We're grateful for this country we live in, the freedoms we enjoy, and as I explained to Eve, the chance to celebrate America's birthday!
lettuce head! :-) and "Look, Mom, Taco Bell!" hahahaha! I love Taco Bell, too!!
