Halle's Broken Arm

I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later, but I guess I thought it would be later!  Our first broken bone :(

Halle was out playing on the tramp with Eve on Tuesday, April 26th.  Eve had her back turned and I was inside, so there are no eye witnesses, but apparently, she caught her foot or something trying to get out of the tramp, fell, and landed just right on her arm.  I heard her screaming immediately, so brought her in and had her rest on the couch.  There was no visible injury and no swelling, but she cried for about three hours at which point we decided we should probably have it looked at just to be safe.

Andrew had meetings at church that he needed to be at, so he took Abigail with him and I took Eve and Halle to the ER.  Little did I know when we arrived at 7pm that we had a five hour ordeal ahead of us....

Halle was so brave even though her arm was hurting!  And even though we had to wait A LOT!

Finally made it into a room around 10pm, where Halle was excited to learn there was a TV!  Too bad there was nothing on :(

Eve and Halle were both very patient waiters.....

Finally they came in with the results of the x-ray.  Oh, when they'd done the x-rays, I couldn't go in (obviously), and Halle was a little nervous, so Eve went with her and helped her be brave!  So nice to have a big sister!

Anyway, turns out she had a buckle fracture near her wrist (on the side of the arm the pinkie finger is on) and they needed to cast her up to her shoulder.
So they wrapped,

and wrapped,

and wrapped some more.  Then squeezed it on there tightly - which was the part that made Halle tear up :(  Through the whole thing, Halle was so brave even though she was scared, in pain, and very tired.  The doctors were amazed by how well she did!

Trying to hold in the tears:

They came to do another set of x-rays, so I waited outside while Eve stayed with Halle again - such a good helper!

All done and finally ready to head home!  After midnight at this point....

Sister support!

Halle did great getting used to the cast - no complaining, milking it for sympathy, or anything!  She had a couple visitors from church - her sunbeam teacher brought a treat over and so did my visiting teaching companion whose daughter is in Halle's class.  She loved the attention!

And she only got a little pampering from Mommy :)  A snuggly bed on the couch to rest in!

Two weeks later, we went back in for another set of x-rays.  Things were healing nicely, so they left her original cast in place and over-wrapped it with a color of her choice: purple!

4 more weeks with this one then another set of x-rays to see what comes next!
