Abigail's birthday was an extended celebration this year! Her actual birthday was on Sunday, but on Saturday we drove down to Lubbock to pick Grandma Larsen up from the airport (she was flying in for a trip she and I were taking the kids on the following week and tickets to Lubbock were much cheaper than Amarillo). Despite the threat of bad weather, we decided to stick to our original plan and go to Chuck E Cheese as Abigail requested before we made the drive back home.
The only problem (well, one of the problems) was that Cora had completely soaked through her diaper and shorts by the time we made the 2 hour drive from our house to the airport. And I hadn't brought her a change of clothes, only Seth. Rookie mistake. I couldn't really leave her to sit on all the rides at Chuck E Cheese in her wet clothes, so......
Turns out, in a pinch, Cora can fit into Seth's 9 month clothes. It was tight, but at least it was clean.
We spent a great couple hours, playing to our heart's content!
(The onesie wouldn't fully snap underneath....)
It was unbelievably awesome having three adults!
This game was my favorite :). We won a lot of tickets at it!
I writing this post 3 1/2 months after the fact and it's so weird to see Abigail with hair. (Spoiler alert, chemo's about to start in a couple of posts.....)
Seth's 1st Chuck E Cheese ride!
"What is this, Mom?"
"Woohoo! I never want to leave!"
Abigail was afraid of the mouse himself and kept her distance.
The ticket muncher is always the best game!
We had a fun birthday visit to Chuck E Cheese! (And bonus, our car did not get hailed on as we feared. The weather driving home was another matter. Worst storm I've ever driven through.)
We used our tickets to buy a bag of cotton candy!
And despite nature's attempts to thwart us, we made it home intact! With Cora's diaper falling out of Seth's clothes....
For her birthday breakfast, Abigail chose monkey bread and even got up early to help me make it!
A happy birthday girl!
I'll admit to some bias, but that's the cutest 5 year old around, folks!
Also, the goofiest.
Playing games with Grandma after church made every birthday better!
Abigail is quite accomplished at skip-bo!
A little birthday thunderstorm!
We tried something fun for Abigail's cake and she helped me!
Please move in, Grandma!
As an extra treat for her birthday, we had the missionaries over for dinner! And I didn't even make Abigail eat taco soup - she got her requested blue chocolate chip pancakes.
Oh, and by missionaries, I mean six of them! We LOVE having the elders and sisters in our home!
The final product - chocolate cake with pink cream cheese frosting, complete with dirt, greenery, and a little wildlife!
And rocks around the bottom!
Don't let her face fool you - Abigail was not at all shy about having an audience! And she's the one who chose to sit between all the missionaries!
"It's so good I can't take it!"
After our guests had left, it was time to find some presents! The girls love it when I hide clues in the balloons!
Ballet slippers! There's a little fountain at the hospital that we've been to 3 or 4 times in the past couple months (lots of blood tests for Abigail) and she always throws a coin in and makes the same wish - "I wish for a pair of ballet slippers!"
A ballerina at heart :).
In anticipation of her pending summer baldness, she also got a hat - her favorite color!
Monday was Memorial Day and we started out first thing at the zoo! Eve and Halle's (and Grandma and Daddy's!) first time!
Halle was apparently not having the best day?
Trying to get the lion to roar, and it worked!
We couldn't find the bear anywhere in his enclosure and were just about to leave when one of us (can't remember which child) spotted him - he was on the stairs from his indoor room out to the enclosure, just a couple feet from our faces!
*Hopefully the closest we'll ever be to a bear....*
We always end with feeding the goats cause it's everyone's favorite and takes a while.
We saw several peacocks, but never yet one with his tail open.
We love having Grandma with us - it makes everything better!
That afternoon we did sidewalk chalk and Daddy put up the tent Abigail got for her birthday!
Working on her sticker art project:
