Grandma Comes to the Rescue

Lest you think things were all fun and games in June, things got really, really bad with Abigail between weeks 2 and 3 of chemo. We were up with her basically around the clock. She was in constant pain, mostly stomach related, and we were falling apart with exhaustion and were so overwhelmed.

Week 3 of chemo was on Tuesday, June 18th.  Luckily, that morning, she was feeling ok. And she was super happy to get a joy jar for a prize at the clinic!

She also received her chemo beads that week. Everything she does related to this tumor journey she's on is documented by a different color of bead. There are beads for every poke, every time she's had to not eat prior to sedation, every trip to the hospital, etc. The child life specialist did a long check with me to make sure she'd included everything from the first time Abigail went in in Lubbock to see the ENT. Abigail's very proud of her beads! (And we have a card that identifies what each one stands for or I'd never remember!)

The feeling well didn't last long. :(

With Andrew at work and me 24/7 with Abigail, the other kids found ways to occupy themselves.

But let's be honest, it wasn't going well.

And apparently I complain too much, or I'm just bad at hiding things from my mom, because she jumped in the car and came down to save us! She told me she was coming the day before, but we didn't tell the girls - specifically Abigail. So when the doorbell rang on Saturday, June 22nd, and I asked Abigail to answer it, she was in for a major surprise!

It's impossible to describe the relief of having your mom/grandma come to your aid. She makes everything ok!

It was like having Grandma there flipped a switch for Abigail. After a week and a half of pure misery for all of us, things began to drastically improve. And Grandma was able to stay a week and a half!
