All Aboard!

Since I was still off work for maternity leave and Andrew had several weeks off school between semesters, we decided to make a holiday of it and go see some family!

Our first stop?  Broomfield!

After a VERY long day in the car, we arrived on Monday, December 10th.  The girls did ok in the car - Halle better than Eve, mostly because she just slept a lot.  Eve did not enjoy being confined.  She threw several fits, but we all survived.  Boy were we glad to finally arrive!

A separate post about our time in Colorado will follow; this post is dedicated to our evening out on Tuesday night.  My parents and Eric had plans to attend the Christmas dinner for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers to which my dad belongs.  It was being held at a train museum about an hour from my parents' house and we decided to bum along.  After all, Eve likes trains!

We arrived late, so lots of the food was gone, but what was left was yummy!  After filling our bellies, we took off to explore!

I must say, it was pretty awesome to have Grandma and Grandpa around.  Grandma took Halle and Grandpa and Eve went off to explore.

I guess I should have specified that it was a model train museum.  The whole building was a huge model train set up.  Pretty incredible!  If you look closely, you can see some grandparents and grandaughters...

They also had one big red caboose (pictured above with Grandma and Halle).  Grandpa took Eve on a tour of the inside:

In addition to model trains, they also had boats!

And a little kids section that you could push buttons to operate certain parts of the village.  Eve's favorite?  The button that made Santa pop out of a little building!

And of course it wouldn't be complete without some hands on toys!

Andrew?!  Did you start that fire?  (That's right, this building actually had smoke coming out of it and the trucks around it had sirens and lights!

The detail was pretty cool - someone must have had a lot of time on their hands to set all that up!

Eric left disappointed, though.  Throughout the museum, they've hidden 5 dinosaurs (in the model woods, lakes, etc.).  We tried to find all 5, but I think only managed four from what I can remember.  Maybe next time!

That's right!  Take a good look!  Andrew and I together in a picture - with no kids!  This is very rare...

It was a late night after the hour car drive home, but well worth it.  We had a great time, and the fun was only beginning!
