The girls and I took a big trip in July to Colorado and Utah. Sadly, Andrew had to stay behind to study for his upcoming bar exam :(
We left on Monday morning, July 2nd!
Our first stop was Colorado, where we stayed several days with Grandpa and Grandma Larsen. The girls did pretty well in the car, with the exception of Cora throwing up everywhere just a few minutes before we arrived. After taking an hour to clean it all up and getting the car unloaded, we headed out with Grandpa and Grandma to a friend's house. She had tons of cherries she wasn't planning on using and Grandpa wanted to can them for pie making!
Time to pick! Only the ripe ones!
The girls were great helpers, and Grandma held Cora a lot so she could pick some. I picked for a bit, then had to sit down. Too tired.
The next morning, we took a walk with Grandma and counted about 10 rabbits along the way! (Apparently they're becoming quite a problem in the neighborhood.)
We stopped to play on the way home!
We got in some sprinkler time before lunch since Grandma was watering the lawn anyway:
And by 'we', I really just mean Eve. And Cora thought about it....
That afternoon (still Tuesday, July 3rd), we made our trek to the rec center! Eve went NUTS for the slides this time. She convinced Grandma to try the big green one that requires tubes and they both had fun - I think they went three times!
The rest of us came to watch!
After that, Eve decided she would try the yellow slide by herself. And she loved it! She's tall enough that she doesn't go under the water at the end, so she went over and over again.
Halle and Abigail preferred this slide:
The girls had so much fun at the pool and had to be dragged away.
Everyone was happy to see Grandpa when he got home that evening. He showed the girls some footage of the volcano in Hawaii:
Our 4th of July started out with Uncle Eric working on his car :)
And a quick "ride" on Grandpa's motorcycle!
Just hanging out waiting for the yummy food!
Grandma gave the girls a butterfly net to play with and Eve was convinced the butterflies could see her coming with the net, so she hid it behind her back and nonchalantly strolled around the backyard until she got close enough to nab one. It actually worked and she caught a little white one!
Tether ball/pole sliding!
This was a dangerous endeavor with Halle's glasses.....
For the 4th of July bbq lunch, Grandpa deep fried a turkey! The girls had to watch from far away so as not to be burned!
And our favorite - homemade root beer!
Check out all that smoke!
Mom and I tried a new apple pie recipe I've been waiting to make and it turned out so well! Half pie/half crisp. So good! I only got a small piece of it (it went fast), so I'll definitely be making it again!
Enjoying our food with Uncle Eric and Aunt Cassidy! The girls kind of mobbed them whenever they came over....
Finding a cooler spot to eat....
Finally time for homemade ice cream!!!
After the bbq, Grandpa brought out his pet skunk, Stinky (I think that was the name?). He had Halle, Abigail, and Cora convinced (they still talk about how careful and quiet they had to be with him).
Eve, not so much.
Enjoying the oasis that is Grandpa and Grandma's backyard! Quite a bit different than what we have in Lubbock....
Cora took a break from outside play to find good spots to arrange Grandma's zoo animals.
After the bbq, Grandpa hosted a flag retirement.
Abigail was very upset that we were burning the flag.
That night, we kept the girls up late and went to the Broomfield fireworks show! It did not disappoint, but the girls were super tired by the end (after 10pm) and kept asking when it would be over.
Eve drove her remote control car around while we waited for the show to start.
Cora snuggled with Mommy :) The only time on our whole trip when we needed the light jackets I'd packed.
Not the best picture, but you can see what a great view we had! And no traffic coming or going, with parking just 30 seconds from our seats. The perfect spot!
Thursday we played around the house and had an afternoon visit from the Baldwins!
Eve and Abigail hid from me and I eventually found them in the crawl space:
Abigail showing us how to catch raindrops on her tongue. Although, I don't believe they tasted like lemon drops....
Playing in the rain with the Baldwins!
By Friday, Eve had perfected her Tarzan move. I was worried, but we escaped with no injuries despite dozens of jumps.
Finally using up some snaps we've had at home for at least a year.
We love snaps!
The Baldwins came again on Friday afternoon, so there was a lot more play time and even some show watching while the grownups worked on homemade pizza!
Dallin and Cora ate inside :)
We were leaving to Utah on Saturday morning, so Abigail had to be sure to show me her new trick before going to bed!
Our week in Colorado was super fun and we were excited to continue the party in Utah!
