Cora Dawn Smith

The baby decided to make her appearance two days late, on June 16th.  And what an appearance it was......

On the way to the hospital!

Once we got to the hospital, things progressed rather quickly.  Too quickly!  It was about 20, maybe 30 minutes from when they first checked me to when she was born.  Which meant no epidural for me :(

I won't go into details, but lets just say it was awful.  There may or may not have been lots of screaming and crying, mostly by me ;)

The good news is, it didn't last long, we had a healthy baby, and now I have something to use to get sympathy for the rest of my life ("Hey, Andrew, remember that time I delivered your 9 1/2 lbs child without drugs?").

I was so delirious with pain, it's all kind of a blur to me.  My doctor came running in literally just in time to catch the baby, after breaking multiple traffic laws on her way to the hospital.  After the baby was born, I think I was in some kind of shock from the experience cause I don't remember much, but I do know they gave me some powerful drugs that numbed the pain and made me really droopy.

I'm a bit more with it in this picture :)

It took until later that day for us to settle on her name, but we ended up going with Cora Dawn Smith.  She was born at 8:48am, weighed 9 lbs 7 oz, and was 20.5 in long.

Later that afternoon, her older sisters and Grandma came for a visit - and boy were her sisters eager to meet her!

And Grandma too!

Cora did pretty well in the hospital - they had to keep checking her blood sugar for the first 12 hours since she was so big, but she passed each test with flying colors.  She kept gagging and semi choking so they sucked out her stomach during the night (poor girl!) and she was much better after that.  All went smoothly so we got to go home the next afternoon.

Lets go home!
