September Stuff

September was an exhausting month - Cora will be the first to tell you!

I took the younger girls to the Buddy Holly Center one day (it was free because I think it was in celebration of his birthday?) for kids crafts.

Turns out, the crafts were coloring your own paper glasses (with either permanent markers or pencils - I opted for pencils) or making a shaker out of toilet paper tubes, plastic wrap, and rice (we skipped this one - there was already rice all over the place.  Not happening in my car/house!).

The girls had the most fun playing the various instruments!

They got to chose a balloon on the way out!  They were very careful with them after my many warnings about them blowing away....and then we got home and I opened both sliding doors on the car without thinking and the balloons were sucked right out.  Oops....

Dentist visit!  The girls were all very good - even Abigail nicely let the dentist check her teeth this time.  Six months ago, she did not.

It was a mistake to let her hold her own prize bag on the way home - apparently she can open the floss.

Awesome smiles from a happy Cora!

The movie "Singing with Angels" was playing at a local theater and our stake president encouraged as many people as possible to attend so I took Eve and Halle and we made a night of it - cotton candy and everything!  (I haven't been to a movie in.....8 years?.....holy cow concessions prices!  Cotton candy was the cheapest thing, which was what the girls really wanted anyway.)  Unfortunately, the movie started 20 minutes late, the cotton candy was already gone, the girls were bored, and the movie wasn't good.  :(  But a good memory, hopefully?

Princess Cora with her wand!

After school one day, I took the girls to a bakery to get a cupcake for a sister I visit teach (it was her birthday).  The girls were begging for cupcakes too, but I explained that this was for a special occasion and we weren't going to spend the money to buy one for each of us.  Eve in particular was very disappointed.  I tried to turn it into a teaching moment - not sure if I succeed.  I told her it was ok to feel disappointed, but instead of just being sad, she should try to think of a creative solution to the situation.  I explained that for much less than the cost of one cupcake at the bakery, we could make our own at home sometime so instead of crying, she should tell me, "Mom, I really wanted a cupcake, but I understand that we're not buying one for me today.  Instead, can we make our own cupcakes at home?"  So we did :)

Abigail's version of licking the bowl clean.....

They each got to chose what color of frosting they wanted:

They did great!  Unfortunately, I think the teaching opportunity backfired, because when Andrew got home Eve told him, "Mom wouldn't buy us cupcakes at the bakery and I was fussy so she made us some at home."  Sigh....

Abigail gets a little sweaty during her naps -

The girls are passing through a major 'making ships out of blankets' phase.  They like to pile on as many toys with them for the journey as they can!

Andrew is president of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society this year and they had a picnic at the park for families.  The girls had fun playing, I had fun trying to force them to eat something, and Abigail's diaper decided to make an appearance.....apparently those shorts are not the most supportive....also, those particular diapers were not the best.  We ended up throwing the rest of the box away after several incidents similar to this one.

Giant chocolate chip pancake!  I try to mix it up in the pancake world, but I usually make small, 2" ones of the girls.  They enjoyed this for a change!

During homecoming week at school, Eve had several days of silliness!

Crazy hair day:

Abigail was very jealous of Eve's blue hair so I used the rest of the bottle on her.  (Eve with a self proclaimed "photo bomb" - thanks Studio C for teaching her that.)

Cora tried out her jumpy seat - she only lasted a couple of minutes.  And she kept her arms tucked in; didn't want them out.

Hat day!

Puzzle making after school:

And finally, Fake an Injury Day :)

We celebrated the first day of fall by making sugar cookies.  Turns out we don't have any fall shapes, so we settled for Halloween.

We went to Eve's school for lunch and decided to make it a regular occurrence!  (Twice a month)  Eve was so excited to see us.  Saying goodbye was a little hard.  She insisted that we walk out the back doors with the kids on their way to recess before leaving.  So we had to walk all the back around to the front of the school to check out at the office.  Eve walked with us for as long as she could, repeatedly giving hugs and kisses and saying goodbye along the way.  When we reached the end of the playground and finally had to part ways, Eve just stood there and watched us go.  After we checked out at the office and got in loaded in the car, we drove past the playground on our way out, and there was Eve, still standing where we'd left her, watching the spot where we'd turned the corner to go to the office.  It was so heartbreaking!  When she saw the car, she was so excited to wave and say goodbye one more time before we drove home.

Green bubble bath!

This fall, the girls are doing a t-ball class through the city and having a great time!  Just over the past few weeks, their skills have really improved!

And that sums up our September - always a party at our house!
