On Tuesday the 14th, we met up with the Baldwins and Natasha at the Denver Zoo!
As there is no zoo in Lubbock, we were super excited to see some animals!
Even if that meant lego lions.....
Halle informed me that her favorite animal is the leopard, so imagine her excitement when one was right by the window!
The girls literally darted around the zoo all day yelling, "Natasha! Look at this! Natasha! Come see this!" She was definitely their favorite adult that day.
Leopards, leopards, and more leopards!
Halle was delighted!
And somewhat protective....
Eve loved seeing anything related to tigers.
She's a Frenship Tiger all the way! (Her school district's mascot.)
The giraffes had a brand new baby which luckily Halle reminded us to see just before we left the exhibit.
Watching the otter in his den:
Got some growing to do!
Abigail was petrified of, yet fascinated with, the wandering geese. She kept a healthy distance and would shout, "Geese, geese!" whenever she spotted any.
It was somewhere around here that I officially lost my voice. Too much calling after the girls to stay close, or not get lost (loudly) took its toll. Unfortunately, it stayed lost for another six days....
We were all suitably impressed with the size of this turtle!
Cora too!
Eve loved that this was a "Chocolate Chip Star Fish". He's against the back wall on the left.
Dragons! Bearded and komodo!
Cora was happy as long as I held her......my arm was not.....
Abigail was also obsessed with the loose peacocks - but not afraid of them like she was the geese.
"Don't get too close!" (Yelled hoarsely, so they didn't hear me.)
We camped out at this table long enough for the kids to refuel....
.....then burned some excess energy on the playground. Don't ask me where they found excess energy. It was about here that I began to seriously droop! Lots more zoo to go, though!
Wait, dinosaurs? He moved and roared and everything! Abigail kept shouting at him, "You're not real! You're not real!"
The brand new tiger exhibit had just opened that week, for zoo members only, so Candace hooked us all up! Remember what I said about Eve and tigers?
We pushed on to the elephants, but chose to skip the in-progress show. It was basically a race against the clock at this point. Everyone was deteriorating by now....lots and lots and lots of walking!
Some kind of rhino:
The penguins were definitely a mood lifter! So fun to watch!
You can tell by quality which pictures I took and which are courtesy of Candace....
The bird house was apparently not impressive to Halle.....
Levi and Abigail on the back of a hippo (statue). There were tons of kids all over it so my aspirations to get a shot with our whole group did not pan out....
The kids were all thrilled to ride the carousel! Halle was determined to get a leopard, although according to another kid on the ride, she ended up on a cheetah. I have a hard time telling the difference when we're talking about fake animals?
I rode between Abigail and Cora and both loved the ride! I had to keep a firm grip on Cora, though!
See what I mean? Leopard? Cheetah? In Halle's opinion, Abigail actually got the leopard and she got the cheetah.
Eve wanted the ride the wild dog (looked like a hyena to me), but changed her mind and picked a dolphin at the last minute.
One of the highlights for all of us, I think, was the gorillas. There was the cutest baby gorilla and watching him interact with his mother was painfully (and comically) similar to real life for Candace and I. The mom's trying to munch her lettuce and the baby is climbing all over her face, pulling at her food, swinging around trying to get her attention ("Look at me, mom! Look, look, do you see? Do you see me?"), while you can just see the look on the mom's face, "Can I just have ONE MINUTE to eat?" Classic. And very entertaining for all of us!
And just like that, we were done! And all managed to survive, more or less.
Abigail slammed her hand in the car door on the way out, so we left the zoo with both her and Cora screaming. If I remember correctly, all four girls managed to fall asleep before we made it to the Baldwin's. We stayed with them Tuesday night and Wednesday morning before heading back to Broomfield.
The girls loved having more time to play with their friends! And steal their toys....
Eve and Halle loved baby Dallin (just two weeks younger than Cora!). And he's not crawling yet either, so I felt good about that ;)
Thanks for a fun couple of days, Baldwins!
