Spring Break in Colorado: Part 3

After returning back to Grandpa and Grandma's on Wednesday, we pulled out the remains of the chocolate cake fiasco from Monday and got to decorating it!  It's a salted caramel chocolate cake (thanks to Katie for the recipe!), so between each layer of cake is some chocolate frosting AND some salted caramel sauce.  Eve did a great job helping frost it!

Then back outside for more play time!  The girls loved the sandbox.

And the tire swing!  It was perfect for Cora and she had a blast on it!

Oh, sweet, soft, fire ant-free grass!  How we loved it!

Being in Broomfield reminded me that I do sometimes like to be outside, just not in Texas.  I love almost everything about Texas, except being outside.

Wednesday night was the much anticipated party, in honor of our family friend John's birthday.  Natasha came (we saw her almost every day of our trip!) and so did Eric and his new girlfriend.  Grandpa talked politics and religion to his heart's content!

And we debuted the cake!  It was quite possibly the richest thing I've ever had and even I, life-long president of the heifer club, was only able to consume a small slice.

The girls weren't able to finish theirs and Natasha took half of hers home.  Delicious, but definitely very rich.

So Cora cried every time anyone besides me tried to hold her.  The entire week.  I thought she'd warm up to people after a day or two.  Nope.  I think this may have been the only time she wasn't crying while Grandma held her so I had to document it.  I hope it's just a phase!

We raided Grandma's bookshelf and Eve started her first chapter book, The Boxcar Children.  She was halfway done by the time we left on Saturday!

On Thursday, we mostly just played outside, but also took a quick walk around Josh's Pond, just down the hill from my parent's house.  It was super windy, even by Lubbock's standards.

We tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to feed the geese.  Even with the wind, the girls couldn't throw the bread far enough.

Yes, Cora's crying.

A quick (like 10 minute) stop at the park on the way back home.  Cora is definitely a fan of swings!

That afternoon Aunt Diana stopped by for a quick visit!  And in true form, no one but Eve would cooperate for pictures.  Halle wouldn't stop crying (I can't remember why), Abigail had her finger in her nose for EVERY shot, and Cora cried until we gave her a book to chew on.  Haha, it was fun to see Diana, though!  Even if we won't remember it as fun based solely on this picture....

Then on our way to pick up Cafe Rio for dinner, we made a quick stop at Natasha's house to see her animals.  Crying Halle and Cora fell asleep in the car, so Grandma stayed out with them while Eve and Abigail got to see some animals!  Dog, cat, rabbit, ferret, and turtle = heaven for these two!

"Winding down" after dinner, before bed.

Our last day in Broomfield was also St. Patrick's Day!

Green pancakes for breakfast!

Then swimming at the rec center with Grandma!  With just the two of us to keep Cora and Abigail from drowning, I didn't take any pictures until just as we were leaving.  And the girls wanted to take turns riding the big slide with me, which left Grandma holding Cora a lot.  And you guessed it, she screamed the whole time.

When left to her own devices (or being held by Mommy) she really like swimming, though!

A few minutes of play time at the indoor play area before heading back to Grandpa and Grandma's:

When we got back, we found that the leprechauns had paid us a visit!  They left their green footprint trail all over the house for the girls to follow!

Including walking on the walls!

At the end of the trail, we found their treasure!

Cora was happy to double-fist her treats on her first St. Patrick's Day!

Green grapes and green capri suns for lunch with our sandwiches.  Note that I completely forgot to pack green outfits for the girls, so we did the best we could....

On Saturday morning, the girls had time to play outside once more while Grandpa fixed our car's ac.  It lasted until we were about halfway home, which got us through the hot part of the day!

One last swing!  And look at that, she's smiling at Grandma, who took this picture!

We had a fantastic week in Colorado, but at least I was ready to head home and see Andrew again.  I'm sure he enjoyed his week of peace and quiet and boredom :)
