Halle's 5th Birthday!

We had a blast celebrating Halle's golden birthday this year!

Like last year, she chose a family outing to the corn maze!

The girls kind of loved these goats!  And took turns feeding them dried corn on the cob:

There was a chicken coop next to the goats and a couple of chickens had somehow gotten out.  Abigail and Cora chased them mercilessly!

Happy 5 year old!

Waiting for our turn on the hay ride!

Cora wasn't interested in the log, or waiting in line, just running around!  Andrew followed her while the rest of us hung out by the log.

There were ladybugs EVERYWHERE!  I've never seen so many.  The girls were in heaven because the ladybugs would just fly around landing on them.  The held onto them as long as they could, as "pets".

(Eve kept the one on her hand, pictured below, for most of the hay ride.  And Cora fussed.)

She wasn't the only one!

Halle wanted to sit right behind the tractor the whole time.

Too bad Cora hates taking pictures.

Horse back rides were a huge hit!

Abigail went without a single fuss and loves it!

Cora watched her sisters from the sidelines with Dad and Mom.  The girls did great!

Mad dash across the field to the cow train!

Cora loved it.  Or not.

Abigail wanted a seat in the rear, so I joined her.

A fun ride through part of the corn maze!

After the cow train, we did the short, kid-friendly version of the corn maze, reading a somewhat altered story of the Three Little Pigs along the way.

Cora would not be held - just wanted to explore!

But had a hard time keeping up with the bigger girls.

She and Daddy fell a bit behind.....

Our final activity was the corn guns!

I attempted pictures by the windmill, but it was hot, REALLY sunny, and Cora was in full meltdown by this point.

We did the corn maze celebrating on Saturday, November 4th, since Halle's birthday was on a Sunday this year.  We had a regional broadcast that day, so had a little extra time in the morning for monkey bread breakfast!

Time sure flies with this little doll!  5 already!?

Here are some things about Halle at age 5:

-45 lbs (75th percentile) and 45 inches (90th percentile)
-She's taught herself to read; self initiated and all!  She loves books and just figured it out on her own.  Kidergarten next year might be boring, academically.
-Good thing Halle is such a social butterfly!  She loves interacting with other kids, but also sometimes just likes to be alone.
-Halle writes very well, and it constantly making notes and letters for people.  She's quite good at sounding out how to spell words!  Still working on proper spacing between words.
-Halle is the best sleeper in our family!  Bedtime is at 7 for the girls, and she and Eve (who are currently sharing a room) stay up for a bit talking and reading together, but once she's asleep, she's out!  She's the only one who never wakes up and bothers us during the night.  (Over our Christmas trip to Colorado a month and a half after her birthday, she even got a stomach bug, threw up everywhere, then just kept sleeping.  Covered in vomit.)
-Halle is very sweet and tender.  She's quick to apologize and look for ways to serve others.
-Halle is spunky and will be our most outgoing child, if things continue the way they're going now.
-Halle was 45 lbs and 45 inches tall at her 5 year well check.
-She's very tall and thin, so clothes are already started to be a problem.  Size 5 clothes are too short on her, but size 6 pants are to big around the waste.
-Halle's VERY picky about clothes.  Not style or anything, just feel.  Out of her whole wardrobe, she'll only wear maybe 1/3rd of it because the rest is "itchy" or "it feels weird!"  I got tired of fighting it (we're talking major meltdowns when I tried to force it), so we just cycle through the few things she'll wear.

This girl is an absolute joy!  And prefers faces like this to smiling for pictures :)

Photo bombing!

Showing me how well she can read on her own by reading me this story!

Halle chose tomato soup and homemade bread for her birthday dinner - a family favorite!

One of her presents was the game Guess Who, which has provided hours of entertainment ever since!

Halle chose a chocolate cake and helped me decorate it!

The finished product!

Wish made!  (Eve and Halle have since told me that they always wish for a pet unicorn....)

Apparently it's good!

Cora agrees.

Halle also received an Elena of Avalor scepter, and from Grandma Larsen some books and the binoculars she wanted!  A fun weekend celebrating a fun girl!
