As always, Halloween was extended and well celebrated this year!
Eve's class took a field trip to the corn maze/pumpkin patch and she picked a pumpkin to bring home and carve. It ended up being the only pumpkin we got this year and the farthest we got in the carving process was cutting the lid in the top and scooping out the insides. I'm blanking on why we didn't finish carving a face on it....? And I had every intention of taking the other girls to pick pumpkins, but by the time we did, there were none left! So, we had a jack-o-lantern free Halloween this year.
No matching costumes this year - the girls each chose their own. First time dressing up was on Saturday for a Halloween carnival at the law school.
Halle was a witch! And she sported the witch costume from Grandma Larsen from when Aunt Kelly and I were little.
Eve chose Elsa :)
(Not too shabby on the braid for someone who does not excel at braids!)
Abigail also wanted to be a witch! The only witch hat I could find left at the stores had purple hair attached. Good thing that's her favorite color?
Two little witches, as cute as can be!
Cora wore the ladybug costume this year and sure made it look good! Although she wouldn't sit still and stop crying for pictures unless I let her play with my keys.
The law school event was lots of fun - tons and tons and tons of candy and not very many attendees. You do the math ;)
Chair wrapping competition!
Eve was very proud that on her second try, she landed the ring on a bottle! Apparently only two other people had successfully managed it.
And on the way out - cotton candy!
Even Cora got one and was quite pleased about it!
Abigail's post-cotton candy face/beard:
That evening was our ward's Trunk or Treat and Brother Burge brought a train ride! It was a Smith/Seegmiller caravan!
Although Cora was crying so she got out halfway through....
Andrew passed out candy while the girls and I made the rounds.
Waiting in the warm car for Daddy to finish chatting!
On Monday evening, Eve's school had a monster mash Halloween ball so we made a brief appearance. The girls loved dancing with Daddy!
Abigail in particular :)
Then we drove over to Texas Tech for Tech or Treat. Cora was a real stinker, so Andrew just wandered around with her while I took the other three to play the games/get candy.
The event was super crowded and there was no one just passing out candy, like last year. Everything was a game with a long line so we only managed to play a few in the hour we were there. Not much bang for our buck (figuratively....it was a free event).
Feed the monster!
Witch golf!
The girls' favorite.....pick the nose for a treat....
Halle and Abigail refused to wear their witch hats, so it was impossible to tell what their costumes were. Oh well! We met back up with Daddy and Cora at the end and headed home to crash. The girls were cold, tired, and grumpy! With a long walk to the car :(
Halle and Abigail had joy school on Halloween (Tuesday) morning and wore their matching "I'm so sweet it's scary!" shirts! Cuteness!
Cora renewed her love of lollipops!
For a school project the week before, Eve had made a haunted house diorama (pictured in a different post) and on Halloween, Abigail and Halle both wanted to make one too!
The finished products! (Abigail likes to wear her swim suit around the house....)
Eve was not allowed to wear her costume to school, but was supposed to dress up as a character from a book (don't get me started) so we went with Annie from her current favorite books, The Magic Treehouse series. :)
Eve's class "all dressed up"......?
That evening, we were supposed to go to our friends, the Greiners for a Harry Potter themed dinner before trick or treating, but the car died and we missed it. Luckily, it was an easy (temporary) fix (the battery connection was loose and just needed to be tightened - it's happened repeatedly since then; we just need to take it in and get a new connection, I supposed?). Anyway, we made for ourselves the witch/wizard hat calzones that we'd been planning on taking to the party and feasted on them for our dinner. Super easy, fun, and maybe a new family Halloween tradition?
The filling had cream cheese and parmesan and the girls decided they only liked the outside crust that didn't have any filling. Maybe a new filling for next year??
Then, finally, it was time for actual trick or treating! We were almost all Halloweened out by this point :)
Cora was content with her "lolpop"!
It was chilly and not many houses were passing out candy, so we just went up and down our street before heading home to admire their haul! The bulk of their candy was from the law school carnival and the ward trunk or treat. Very little actual from Tech or Treat or trick or treating.
Now we have Halloween candy to deal with for the next year! They still have some left from last Halloween that we finally just tossed....
Happy Halloween!
