This year Eve celebrated her golden birthday - 8 on the 8th!
She was excited to take birthday treats (zebra cakes) to her 2nd grade class on Friday, since her birthday was on Saturday. However, Andrew and I were up in Amarillo that day closing on our new house. Luckily, family was coming into town for her baptism, so Uncle Lance and Aunt Lisa filled in at school and brought the treats!
Showing Uncle Lance her school stuff :)
We all traveled safely into Lubbock on Friday. Grandpa and Grandma Larsen with Aunt Kelly, Reagan, and Blade drove down from CO, stopping in Amarillo on the way to meet up with us post-close and to see the new house briefly! Then we semi-caravaned from Amarillo to Lubbock, with Andrew and Grandpa/Grandma a bit ahead since Kelly and I stopped to pick up donuts for Eve's baptism in the morning.
And good thing we did! We woke up the next morning to 8-10" of snow!
Eve was thrilled with her birthday snow! She and Halle brought big scoops inside in paper cups and bowls to 'experiment' with. That's how we play with snow in Texas :)
Since our house is rather small, only Aunt Kelly, Reagan, and Blade stayed with us. This is the view from Grandpa and Grandma's hotel:
Lots and lots and lots of thick, wet snow made for very slippery, dangerous roads. Needless to say, the baptism scheduled for that morning was a bit delayed. Eve and one other girl from her class were both being baptized. Grandpa was worried about road conditions, so he drove everyone from our house to the church in his big car, in two shifts. I was in the last shift and was literally the last to arrive for the baptism, 45 mins late :(. Obviously not many people were able to attend, but the few who did (and the other family and their guests) were all just sitting and waiting. I felt really bad! I grabbed Andrew and Eve for quick picture in the hall before the program began.
Since I was so late, all the front three rows were already filled and I was so sad that I was going to have to sit in the back for Eve's baptism. But Reagan was nice enough to let me have her front row seat! Aunt Lisa took some pictures for us since I was handling Cora and Seth.
Getting ready!
We're so proud of Eve's decision to be baptized. She thought long and hard about it before making the decision to make sure it was really what she wanted to do. Being a little shy, she was nervous about all those people watching her, so I think it helped that her friend MJ was sharing the day. And she was excited that the baptism got to be on her birthday!
In the chaos post-baptism, we grabbed a few pictures:
Some sillier than others....
We were so happy that some family was able to come be with us! The girls had a lot of fun with Reagan!
Pictures with babies did not go well.
We missed Grandpa and Grandma Smith, but at least Uncle Lance and Aunt Lisa came! Although I guess I didn't get a picture with Lisa and Eve? :(
After pictures, the kids all sugared-up on donuts and hot chocolate, then ran it off. No serious injuries or anything!
These girls loved that the earth was white just like them on their special day!
Plus, Eve loves snow.
The rest of the streets in Lubbock may have been a mess, but people were hard at work cleaning out the church/temple parking lot and sidewalks!
When we got home, Cora was determined to blaze her own trail to the front door, very excited about all the snow! That is, until it went up over her boots....

It's definitely been hard on Eve that her best friend moved in October. We're hoping she can make good friends in Amarillo!
Abigail refused to put a coat on and I wasn't going to die on that hill, so.....
She didn't last very long.
It was an exhausting day for all of us - good thing there are such things as Grandpa-snuggles!
I tried my best to make an 8, but as Eve said, "It you take out the green balloon, I'm zero!"
Eve was excited to pop her balloons, read the clues, and find her presents! Everyone else was eager to help :)
She found them all!
From Grandma and Grandma Smith Eve got her very own set of scriptures and she loves them! She carries them around with her everywhere and uses them every day for family scripture study.
Eve requested a Frozen cake and to keep things simple, Sam's Club helped me out a bit :) The cake was huge and we ended up throwing more than half of it away, so lesson learned....
Make a wish!
Apparently Aunt Kelly is more excited about Eve's birthday than Eve is! :) I actually can't remember what upset Eve at the end of the day, but I promise Eve had a great day!
Happy golden birthday and baptism day, Eve! We love you!
