Moving to Michigan: Part 2

Part 2: Leaving Texas :(

You can tell that at least one of us was very sad to go!

And that someone was obviously not Eve! She was ready for a new adventure!

Goodbye Texas apartment - all clean and empty.

Goodbye island:

Goodbye HUGE bathroom:

The movers had already taken all out stuff the week before, so we crammed (it was tight!) the things we'd kept into our little car, and headed out! This was Thursday, May 26th. We drove north to Chicago that day to spend the night with Andrew's cousin. On our way, we drove through Joplin, MO only a few days after the devastating tornado that went through the area. It was heartbreaking to see the destruction, even from the freeway.

Ok, I hate blogger. It just deleted this post (and it's a long one!) and I had to start over. Sigh. Figures.

We also drove through St. Louis on our way and snapped a couple of quick pictures of the arch and the Mississippi from the car.

As I mentioned, we stayed that night in Chicago with Andrew's cousin, Kevin, and his family. They were so nice to let us crash there for the night even though we got in late and left again the next morning. But not before Eve got to spend some time with her second cousins!

A smile! We haven't seen too many of those recently (see next post).

We arrived in Michigan on Friday, May 27th and had quite an eventful day (sadly). We drove in from Chicago that morning and due to hitting some construction, were running a bit late. It just went downhill from there! We went to our realtor's to pick up our keys only for him to say, "Didn't anyone call you? You have to go pick up the keys from the property managment company that's on the other side of town. Oh, and by the way, they won't give you the keys until you transfer the electricity into your name." Ah! Thanks for waiting until 5:00pm on a Friday to tell us this! So we rushed over to the property mgt place with me on the phone to the power company. At least the realtor had called to them them we were coming, so they waited for us. We got the keys and drove back across town to our condo. Only to find that the keys didn't work!!!!! We couldn't get in! We called the property mgt people and thankfully there was still someone there. They agreed to send someone with another set of keys to meet us in a Walgreens parking lot. So we got back in the car and drove another 20 mins to meet her. We made the switch and headed home.....and the new keys worked! What a relief! It was after 7 by this point....

We couldn't get the heat to work, though, so we spent a cold night in an empty apartment - but at least we got in!

So here's the new place.

The living room:

The living room looking into the dining room/kitchen:

Looking down the hall to our rooms. Eve's is straight ahead, ours is on the left. And on the right, we have the bathroom :)

The bathroom. I'd like you to notice that there's not a single white wall in this place! I love it!

Our room - yes, it's brown! And two-toned! And has a brick wall (the other side of that wall is the fireplace in the living room).

Eve's room is green (yes, she gets her own room now - so spoiled!):

As Eve was walking around with me taking all these pictures, she insisted that I take one of her too!

Even though they'd given us a week delivery spread, the movers did arrive first thing the next morning with our stuff! We were very glad! The place filled up quickly!

Eve wanted another picture:

After the movers finished unloading us, we were left alone in a very full apartment and needed to grab a quick bite before we dove into unpacking. What better to have to eat than a taste of home? The young women in Texas gave me some Texas queso and salsa as a going away present. And some Texas earrings (LOVE it!), wildflowers seeds, and a bbq book. I miss Texas!!!!

Ok, back to work!

But then Eve decided she was hungry too (that's fair....). She picked a good time to learn to feed herself! Too bad she hasn't done it since....

Ok, back to work for real this time!

It took a lot longer than last time (I wonder why, Eve!?!?!?!) but within a couple of days, we were done! Here's a random picture of Eve eating my lip gloss after going through my purse.

So we're all (mostly) settled in now and learning to like it! I have about a 25 minute drive to work, which isn't bad. And so far, I'm enjoying the work. I'm a manager in a AT&T Advertisting Solutions call center (selling ads in the Yellow Pages and yp.com). So far so good!
