Wednesday, August 16th was another opening of a Chick-fil-A near our house, and since this location was doing a First 100 Scavenger Hunt (that let you bring minors as guests), both Andrew and I attended - and we brought all the girls!
It made for an early morning.....we got everyone up at 5am in order to arrive around 5:45. At first, the police officers helping to monitor things said guests had to be over 5 years old, so I was prepping to head home with the girls, but he checked with the managers and they gave permission for the girls to stay. So stay we did!
We all waited in line and hung around outside while everyone got registered and wrist-banded until about 9am. This was the hardest part of the day. Not easy to keep 4 tired girls happy for that long! But we managed! They fed us breakfast and we played a few games while waiting to be released to being the scavengering....
Including a rock, paper, scissors tournament!
I think Andrew won this round:
At 9am, they gave each of us our list of events for the day, and we headed out!
First stop was the Buddy Holly Center where we needed to take pictures in front of the giant glasses and posing like a Buddy Holly statue.
Our next stop was another local Chick-fil-A to download the restaurant's app and pick up free lunch. My first time trying one of their salads and it was delicious! The girls enjoyed a few minutes of play time - including Cora, who did NOT want to come down!
The last stop was Lopez Park for some games: giant Jenga, puzzles, bowling, and corn hole.
At this stop, they gave each participant two free breakfast offers - one to keep and one to give away (and take a picture of yourself giving away). It just so happened that our ward's weekly playgroup was at Lopez that morning, so we gave our cards to ladies from church!
(The one I gave mine to is Kristin Hall, Halle's primary teacher!)
We finished all this, even with a semi-slow pace, by maybe 11:30? And we didn't have to be back to the restaurant until 2pm, so we went home and took a break!
I don't think anyone ended up napping (except Cora), but it was still a good break before we headed back to finish out the day!
Back at the restaurant, they divided the group in half and took turns going into the restaurant to package food for the food bank, with the same group we did it through during my May Chick-fil-A day. Luckily, a group from our ward was there, so they watched the girls when it was our turn to package food. (We were the only ones crazy enough to bring the whole family.)
Then it was time for the final line checks and prizes! And cows!
The final wait in line was brutally long and extremely hot. We were all near our breaking points by then.
Just think of all the free food coming! So close!
Cora was completely melting down by this point, but we did it! We grabbed our free meals and ran!
104 more free Chick-fil-A meals in the bank! I don't know the exact count, but I'm pretty sure our 52 from May are almost gone.....this should hold us for another few months?
And I just heard there's another Chick-fil-A opening in Lubbock in a few months..... :)
