Friday, August 24th, was time for Abigail's next MRI! She was excited to bring an assortment of stuffed animals from home to keep her company.
Getting settled in watching TV!
Numbing cream on and waiting for the word that they were ready for us! Abigail, who has been healthy literally all summer, chose this moment to cough. Which brought the doctors in to check her to see if they should proceed. They gave her the all clear, so we went ahead.
Putting the IV in this time was awful. The nurses tried both hands, starting at 8:45am, for about 40 minutes of poking and prying and finally even Abigail, who's always so brave, started to cry. Poor girl! They had to bring in a specialist, who got the IV in her arm right away, around 9:30am. Abigail got lots of prizes for holding so still, even with the tears. Well deserved in this case!
Fast asleep and ready to go!
They started her MRI at 9:45am and came into the waiting room at 10:35 to tell me they had to stop because she was coughing too much. Are you kidding??? This is when she chooses to cough??? She started to wake up about 5 mins later and by 11am was ready for some food! She had a lunch tray in her room and the nurses brought her her requested fruit loops and chocolate milk, so it was quite a feast!
Her favorite part was the chocolate pudding!
It was about noon when we finally left, with instructions to come back for another try the following Friday, but this time with outpatient surgery and full anesthesia again. Boo. When Abigail and I showed up the following Friday, we learned that we weren't on the schedule and after some investigation were told that the neurosurgeon had cancelled the appointment. Apparently, they got enough images during the first scan before she started coughing. The good news is that the tumor is still stable! So another MRI in 3 months. (And turns out they sent me an email with this information, including that the second MRI had been cancelled, and I just missed it. Guess I should check my email more often?)
We're just happy Abigail is still doing well! Another blessing for our family :)
