On Tuesday, August 13th, the first day of school, Abigail got to cut out early and head to chemo! She had been supposed to do weeks 7 and 8 while the kids and I were gone, but had failed her counts both times, so this week was week 7 of 10!
And she got a visitor!
It was so funny to watch her taste buds change as her body adapted to the effects of chemo. At this stage, she was putting salt on everything - and LOTS of it. Here she is salting her cheese quesadilla.
Yum!
The next Tuesday was week 8 - here she is playing at the clinic while we wait to see Dr. Kaylani.
On the 26th of August we did an MRI to see how the tumor was responding to the chemo. Unfortunately, the nurse doing the MRI MISSED trying to put her port in and just stabbed her in the chest. Poor girl was crying and crying. They got someone from pediatrics to come down and put it in correctly. Last time we've done it that way! Now we go to the oncology clinic before each MRI and have Brenda access her port like she does for chemo. So much better! Brenda is the best!
She wasn't alone for the MRI that day! We had some siblings in tow!
The next day was Tuesday and chemo! Cora and Seth along for the ride again! Here they are playing in the waiting room at the clinic:
We eventually got this routine down after several months of practice, but at this point it was still new. I rocked Seth back and forth in the stroller until he fell asleep for a short nap.
Boy is he fun to entertain in a hospital room for hours on end.
Cora was super excited to order a lunch tray!
Seth was less excited, but never turns down food!
Let's check out the play room!
Seth figured out how to push the button and make this thing go! Couldn't quite steer, so he'd just go straight until he ran into the wall, but still super cute! And he was so happy about it!
Abigail loves helping push in the meds and flushes and the nurses are so good about letting her be involved.
Done with week 9! Just one more week left of the long 12 week starter round (10 weeks of chemo, 2 weeks break.) After her fourth time failing her counts, Dr. Kaylani decided to reduce her dose to 75%. He said it is better for her to consistently get a 75% dose than to sporadically get a 100% dose that makes her continually fail. Makes sense! We're so proud of how well she's done with all of this!
