(Note: I've been doctoring the dates of these posts so they'd appear in the 2017 folder, but I'm so behind at this point, I'm just going to let that show the real post dates.)
We were all so excited to have Abigail home with us! It was a lot of work to take care of her, though. She was still throwing up a lot and required constant watching as she would try to do things that were.....unsafe.....silly girl!
Going for a drive on Saturday the 25th to take Grandma Larsen to the airport :( With a throw up bowl easily on hand!
We brought the bean bag into the living room for Abigail to sit in and she really liked it! She also enjoyed that she got to sleep in our room for several weeks so we could monitor her at night. We brought in her mattress and she was all comfy!
All fresh after Sunday morning baths! Obviously she did not go to church...
We decorated her bedroom door with all the kind cards and notes she got from friends - she loved it!
And she loved feeling well enough to enjoy all her presents too!
Her little spot - pillow, blankie, snack, and water. What else does a girl need??
Aunt Kayla and her cousins had sent her a special box of fun things and we saved it until Sunday to open because I wanted her feel well enough to enjoy it. And boy did she!
Using her new makers, in her new notebook, wearing her necklaces, with her two new ponies looking on:
All the girls wanted to do art after church!
Cora's version of art:
On Sunday evening, Aunt Lisa arrived (I'll do a separate post about that) and we were so glad to have her!
We still had a couple days left with the mice after Abigail got home and someone was in heaven!
Who knew how starved these girls are for pets?
The days passed as we continued to wait for Abigail's diagnosis. I think I mentioned in a previous post that the doctors here in Lubbock were unable to identify the type of tumor so we were waiting for word from the Mayo Clinic. Waiting was hard!
But not as hard when Abigail was cheerful and such a good grocery helper! (It is totally coincidental that she is pictured in the candy aisle.)
All worn out from so much fun!
On Wednesday, the 29th, the oncologist's office called and set up an appointment with us for the following Tuesday to talk about Abigail's diagnosis. We were super nervous, but not as much as the following day, Thursday the 30th, when the office called back and asked us to come in that afternoon. I, at least, was panicking! What couldn't wait until the appointment on Tuesday??
So Andrew and I took Abigail in that afternoon to meet with Dr Al-Rahawan. And the news was great! The best it could be! The Mayo Clinic had diagnosed her tumor as a low-grade glioma, or more specifically "pilocytic astrocytoma". He said that going forward we would do MRI's every three months to monitor it's growth but that was it! And as the tumor remained stable, they could decrease the frequency of the MRI's to every 6 months, then maybe once a year.
Super excited for such great news!
Early the next week, we met with Dr. Belirgen, the neurosurgeon, to talk about the results too. He was surprised by the diagnosis and even told us, "That's not what it looked like to me", but was also happy about the good news. He said he wanted to do her next MRI at the end of January, to use as a baseline against which to compare the future views.
