Happy Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving this year! First thing in the morning, we got up to go the ward’s Turkey Bowl. I sat huddled in lots of blankets in the bleachers, sipping hot chocolate, while Evan and Andrew enjoyed a few hours of football.

We got to spend the rest day with my grandma who lives about 30 minutes north of us. We had a delicious meal, followed by a leisurely afternoon of playing games and watching movies. Not too shabby!

Friday and Saturday were a bit less relaxing. Andrew was off of work, but spent both days working on finishing a dresser we bought. Here are the before and after pictures:

It looks so good now that it’s done! It also means all the baby stuff is washed and put away, finally.

Besides that big project, we decided that in addition to the wonderful Thanksgiving we’d had on Thursday, we’d cook our own meal at home on Saturday – two Thanksgivings is never a bad idea, right? Hmm….I’ll be honest, that went a little better last year when I wasn’t 8 ½ months pregnant. We made a big meal (complete with four pies!) and by the time it was ready, I was forced to admit that it just wasn’t worth it this year. Way too much work! The presentation of the food left much to be desired, so no pictures of that, but here are the pies.

Lots of pie for just three people, so we’ve had to find ways to give some of it away!

Other than that, we’re just gearing up for Christmas and the arrival of the baby! The doctor said yesterday that she could come any day now, so we’ll try to be as ready as we can for that!

Finally a Break!

Yesterday was my last day of work! Yay! Finally I will have time to get things done, instead of just making longer and longer lists of things I’d like to/should do. So to everyone who’s been judging me for not doing ANY baby shopping yet, enjoy it while you can because this will be the weekend! (Disclaimer: provided that (1) we have no car repairs like we have the past two weekends and (2) that Andrew’s feeling well enough to go – he’s been sick this week, but had a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, so fingers crossed that they pump him up with some powerful drugs!).

Oh, we do have to get our brake pads changed on Saturday in one car and a brake flush in both cars – any recommendations for a good place to go?

We had two more baby showers last week which were very fun! My coworkers threw a lunch shower at work and some ladies from church threw a shower for friends and family in the area. The baby is way too spoiled; everyone has been so nice!

I had another doctor’s appointment today and the baby’s doing great! They did another sonogram to check her kidneys (at my last sonogram three weeks ago, her kidneys were measuring too big so it had the doctors worried). This time around, her kidneys are looking better. They’re estimating that she’s around 7 lbs now, but the lady who did the sonogram did say that she tends to measure babies big, so she might be closer to 6 ½ lbs. Yes – 6 ½, please be 6 ½! Stay small, little one…..

It Could Have Been Worse

Here’s our exciting story for the week: car repairs! Evan was out with the missionaries on Monday night when the engine overheated. We went and picked them up and managed to get the car home before it overheated again (whew!). A discouraging turn of events, but we did have some luck in getting it fixed! We have an auto shop right next to our apartment, so I was able to drop the car off and walk home (a major bonus since Andrew can’t get home from his job before the place closes). And the needed repairs were as simple as they could have been – just a new thermostat and a system flush! We’re very happy we didn’t have to spend tons of money on a new water pump or some other big fix. What a blessing!

That poor car’s had a rough week. On Monday night, after we managed to get it back to our parking garage, we were locking it up and getting out. We had a gallon of water with us (in case we needed it for the overheating issue…) that we hadn’t used. Without thinking, I put the gallon of water on the driver’s seat, thinking that Andrew could grab it from his side (he was already out of the car, thanking a guy from church who had been assisting us). Then, I asked him to pull the car forward a little farther into the parking space, so he sat down to do so and……OOPS! Water everywhere! The cap popped right off of the gallon of water and the inside of the car got a good washing. Ha! We weren’t laughing at the time, but looking back, I can appreciate the humor of the incident. As long as the floorboards don’t mold. That’ll teach me to thoughtlessly set things in random places!

Other than that, we’ve had a quiet few days. I’m including a picture of our kitchen because awhile ago I added pictures on facebook from the move and promised I would get around to adding pictures once everything was unpacked in the kitchen. That never happened (me adding the pictures, not the unpacking). So here’s what our kitchen looks like, fully unpacked!

And yes, it’s been like this since only a couple of days after we moved in, I’m just now getting around to posting the pictures. Andrew deserves the credit for the top-of-the-cabinet arrangements. He did a great job! Also, notice the lovely, super-low countertops on the island. We’re in the handicap unit so we have several quirks like that! Although I must admit that the bars in the bathroom by the toilet and in the tub are my favorite. So helpful!
