Our Week in Photos

This post comes at the request of Kelly (yes, I do take requests). We don't have any crazy, exciting stories from the past week, but we do try to take lots of pictures, so I'll just share some of those. Enjoy!

These last two are very similar, but I couldn't decide which was cuter so I went with both!

Happy Valentine's Day!

As you can tell from the picture below, Eve wasn't too sure at first what she thought about this new holiday. Mommy got her all dressed up for the occasion though, courtesy of Aunt Kelly.


Of course, no day is complete without a nap :) And since Eve is so wiggly when she's awake, this was the easiest way to get a good shot of her whole outfit. She and I spent a mostly quiet day at home, getting ready for Dad to come home!

When Andrew did come home, he came bearing gifts! Eve got her very first Valentine's Day rose, from her very first valentine :)

She was a happy girl! And Andrew managed to catch it on the camera. He has actual magical powers! Or it just goes to show that if you take enough pictures, you're bound to catch a smile at some point.....

And I was happy, because I got roses too!

We're so blessed to have such an awesome husband and father!

For dinner, I made lasagna. I meant to get some sparkling cider, but I couldn't find it at the store, so yes, that's root beer in our glasses. Best $.88 I spent yesterday!

And for dessert, we had cheesecake. It was my first time making cheescake (thanks Mom for the recipe) and it turned out great! I love cheesecake!

And the best news of all - the swing we bought online arrived yesterday. Here's the inaugural ride. Let's hope she likes it as much as I need her to! So I can get a few more minutes of peace each day to get things done. She's in this phase where she freaks out if she can't see me at all times. Flattering, but a little bothersome....

Hotel Smith's Last Guest Checks Out

Since Eve was born in December, we've been lucky enough to have a steady stream of visitors! This past week, my former roommate Marinda finished up as our last planned guest for the foreseeable future. We had a fun week with her here! Besides spending a lot of time sitting around and admiring Eve, we had the chance to get out and do a few fun things :)

One afternoon while Andrew was still at work, we drive over to the Dallas Temple which is about 15 minutes from our house.


We forgot to bring the stroller, so Eve enjoyed being carried around the temple grounds. It was a sunny, fairly warm day - such a nice change from the snow and ice we've been having.

On Saturday, Andrew was headed to the park to play football with some guys from church, so we went with him (a little early) so we could spend more time outside! Eve got her first chance to ride a swing. This one was a bit big, so Andrew had to assist.

Even the baby swing was too big, so again, a bit of help was required. But Eve seemed pleased :)

Saturday evening, we had dinner with our friends Chris and Melissa. I met Marinda and Melissa in the same BYU student ward in Provo, so we all go way back. We had a yummy dinner at Prairie House and had a good time catching up. I forgot to take pictures, go figure.

On Sunday, we had to say goodbye to Marinda. Eve was sorry to see her go (as she is with all our guests).

I was sad to see her go too! We lived together for three years before Andrew and I got married...parting is such sweet sorrow!

Is Someone a Little Spoiled? I Think So!

Despite having to go to the doctor this week, Eve has had a great week! She got so many presents this week! First, Aunt Kelly sent a package with a cute Valentines Day outfit and some other springy clothes. Next, my friend Marinda (who is visiting with us this week) brought a couple of more cute outfits. And finally, we received a package from Candace this week with more bounty for the baby! Here's the pictures of Eve with her loot:

In addition, there was a little something in the box from Candace for Andrew and I - a huge pyrex dish with our name etched on it and full of the trappings for lasagna! Such a fun (and yummy) surprise!

So I already posted a video of Andrew flying Eve. Here's a video of the two of them "talking". She loves to talk to people and is learning so many big words! :)

Practically Perfect in Every Way

This week, Eve turned two months old - which meant another trip to the doctor. Here are her two month stats:

Weight: 11 lbs 5.5 oz (50% percentile)

Length: 22.5 in (50% percentile)

Head circumference: 39.5 cm (75% percentile)

What do we learn from this? We have a perfectly average baby! And that she's going to be really smart (since her head is proportionately bigger than her body). Good news on all fronts. And she's healthy to boot!

After that fun size update, she had to get her shots :(. Not fun! She screamed when they were given, but calmed right down afterward when I could hold her and then fell asleep and slept for the rest of the afternoon. Whew!

Of course, that meant she didn't sleep well that night, but that's ok. We were proud of how good she did with her shots! Now she gets a two month break from the mean doctors who stick her with needles and shove thermometers up her....well, you know....

Rapunzel, Rapunzel

I mentioned in a previous post that Eve had lost all her hair on top. That's right, on top of her head - not in the back like most babies. We were worried at first that it was an early onset of male pattern baldness (in a baby.....girl....?) but I'm happy to report that her hair is coming back and growing steadily! Andrew just pointed out that the following picture makes her look like a boy, but it can't be helped - look at that peach fuzz on top! No more baldness for this baby!


The length of her hair in back has never been problem. It keeps getting longer and longer. And some days messier and messier.....

She'll have lovely, long locks in no time!

Brrrrrr!

On Monday night, we got our first taste of a Dallas ice storm. Turns out, ice storms can quickly bring the city to a halt. It started with some rain and the temperatures dropped so quickly that everything froze. As I mentioned in the last post, we were able to get Andrew's parents to the airport and they made it home on Tuesday. Andrew didn't work on Tuesday (everything was closed due to the ice) so he got to take his parents on the icy roads while Eve and I stayed home, nice and warm.....

Tuesday night to Wednesday morning we lost power. Four times. At least it didn't stay off! It was a lot of back and forth.....power, no power, power, no power. You get the idea. Eve was not happy the first time it went out. It was very early in the morning (maybe 3 am) and she was in the living room with me. She started crying when everything all of a sudden went black! We were worried about her getting cold (or scared), so she slept with us for most of the rest of the night. Here's her picture, first thing in the morning:


It's been cold enough here since Tuesday that the ice hasn't melted. So Andrew had the rest of the week off and we've just been cooped up in the house, unable to venture out because the roads are so bad. But we've made sure that Eve's been dressed nice and warm!

Finally by Thursday night we had to get out! Andrew had a basketball game at the church and I had a Young Women Presidency meeting, so we bundled Eve up and went out to brave the cold and ice. We dressed Eve in the warmest clothes we have for her....too bad they're a little too big! But so cute that I didn't care if it was a little big.

We got four more inches of snow last night, but hopefully that's the end of our winter adventure. We're ready to thaw out and get back to our normal routine!

And Mommy does think Eve is perfect! Or at least pretty close.....

Meet the Grandparents

Eve had the distinct pleasure this past week of meeting her Smith grandparents! Andrew's parents came to visit for a few days, to be here for Eve's blessing. We had a great, if quiet, few days with them. Eve loved that they were happy to hold her all day long (I loved that too!).

We almost got a few more days with them since their flight back to Salt Lake was on Tuesday, the day our big ice storm hit. Most of the flight that day were cancelled, but theirs was one of the few that made it out. Good thing they got out that day because we've been frozen under here in Dallas since then! We're so glad they got to visit and meet their first grandchild!
