Happy Valentine's Day

Apparently I took almost no pictures this Valentine's Day?  We started celebrating at the beginning of the month, with each girl decorating an envelope for a mailbox that we hung on their door (or bunk bed in Eve and Halle's case).  Then for the next two weeks, we left notes in each other's mailboxes.  The girls particularly looked forward to the note and treat that they'd find (most) mornings from Mom and Dad.

On actual Valentine's Day, they woke up to find a big heart by their bed and a box of chocolates.  They were excited!

Cutest little Abigail valentine picture ever!

We couldn't find Eve's heart for her picture after school.  And it was really bright....

And Cora wouldn't keep her chocolates closed long enough to be pictured - or look at the camera!

The girls made Andrew a valentine card and got him some macadamia nut clusters and he surprised us by coming home early from work with chocolate toffees for me and roses for all of us.  We enjoyed a nice dinner of lasagna with cheesecake for dessert.  Alas, not homemade on either account this year, but you do what you can, right?

We sure love each other in this family and enjoy having this special day to celebrate together!

Abigail's Baseline MRI

With Abigail's tumor diagnosis of pilocytic astrocytoma, the doctors had said they wanted to do MRI's every 3 months, at least for now, to keep an eye on it.  Her first MRI, to be used as a baseline to compare the future views against, was scheduled for Friday, January 26th.

Andrew stayed home from work that day to watch Halle and Cora since we knew it would take half the day.  I was worried about how Abigail would react to being back in the hospital, considering how her post-surgery experience went, but she did great!

She was excited to get more cream on her arms - only two spots this time!

We showed up at the hospital around 7am for a 9am MRI.  I was glad it was first thing in the morning so she didn't have to go without food all day.

We hung out and watched shows and played games on my phone until they came to do her IV around 8:45.  Despite the numbing cream and the hospital tablet to play games on to distract her while they placed it, Abigail felt it this time and was not happy.  But we got it done.

Getting ready to head down!

Sleepy meds (propofol) in at 9:20am and doing their job.

Her MRI started at 9:30 and finished at 10:50.  She was super silly and groggy as she was waking up and even asked me, in her drugged state, "Is it morning time?  Did I keep my pull-ups dry all night and stay in my bed all night so I can have a treat?"  :)

She was rolling around so much as she came to that I had to keep both hands on her so she didn't fall off the bed!

We headed home around 11:30.  I didn't know how soon we'd hear from the neurosurgeon on the results so when a couple of weeks had passed, I just figured there was nothing to report.  The pediatrician had looked up the MRI results for us the Monday after the scan and told me she saw the word "stable" so I left it at that.  When we went back the next week (remember all the ear infections I mentioned in my other post....), she asked if I'd heard from the neurosurgeon yet and when I said, "no", she encouraged me to call him!  She said the results said read and said something about some growth?  I wish she'd told me earlier!  I called the neurosurgeon only to find out that he'd been out of the country and that's why we hadn't heard from him yet, not necessarily because there was nothing to report.

His office called me a couple of days later to say he was back and had viewed her MRI.  He was seeing changes he was having a hard time identifying and wanted to confer with the oncologist, hematologist, and a couple other neurosurgeons.  They called me back a few days later after all those doctors had met to confirm that they were seeing "subtle changes" that were unexpected and would like to do another MRI.  Based on how this next MRI looks, the surgeon would like to discuss with us the possibility of another surgery.  Not the uneventful results we were expecting!

At the point of this writing, we're still waiting.  We meet with the neurosurgeon on March 12th to discuss the results in more detail, then her next MRI has been scheduled for March 21st.  We'll know more at that point, but until then are just trying to not worry too much.

Here's Our January Stuff

Compared to prior months, January was relatively low-key.

Eve's front teeth got wigglier and wigglier.

Abigail's bed head got crazier and crazier.

One night for Family Night dessert, we finally went to DQ and got our ice cream cones from the summer reading program.  Don't judge.  The girls loved it!

Especially this girl!  "What is this deliciousness??"

Our winter of sickness continued, with both Cora and Abigail ending up in my bed one night (throw up bowls and all).

It's hard to see them both from the first angle.

The weather continued it craziness, with a couple days of warmth, followed by cold, then back to warm.  On the warm days, the girls get to play at the playground when we pick Eve up.

And they build crazy forts on the tramp.

And once I had to take Eve to school (normally Andrew does), so the girls and I loaded up the car and were rewarded with this sunrise!

The girls had a primary activity to meet their new teachers and Abigail, our new sunbeam, freaked out and wouldn't let me leave.  Not even donuts and crown making were enough to keep her happy unless Mom stayed right by her side.  So much for grocery shopping during the "drop off" activity!

Eve's first front tooth was hanging by a thread by the end of the activity!  (Guess who's in senior primary now?)

She Facetimed Grandpa and Grandma Larsen on the way home and Grandpa told her he'd send her a dollar if she pulled it out right then - so she did!

Toothless!

That night, she and Halle created an elaborate set up for the tooth fairy including a bed to nap in (with a blanket!), a table set with a snack and drink, and throne to sit on.  And they both wrote her notes.

She even replied!

Abigail's first day as a Sunbeam!  Andrew had to sit with her in primary and class....

On Tuesday, the 16th, Abigail and I got to watch the announcement of the new First Presidency!  We love President Nelson!  (She was supposed to be at joy school but refuses to go - just cries and cries - when it's at one certain mom's house.  I can't figure it out.)

Cora thought it'd be easier to eat the pretzels this way.

And the girls made "beds" in Cora and Abigail's room.

While Cora slept in the living room, instead.

For Uncle Evan's birthday, Halle drew this picture and we sent this photo to him in Japan!

It was if-y until the last minute if we'd celebrate National Pie Day this year, but we pulled it off!  Chicken pot pie for dinner and Oreo pudding pie for dessert.

For her recycling one Wednesday morning, Eve got to pick a prize and chose this cute little doll.  Cute, until you notice that it's hands and feet have been bitten off.

She loves it, though.

And Abigail loves wearing swim suits.  Every.  Day.

Fort building in the living room!  We need a bigger house....1200 sq ft isn't cutting it....

Daddy attack!

Have I mentioned how much I love that Halle can read now?  Cora always wants to be read to, and with Eve gone at school, Halle's a big life saver!  And always willing to read to Cora.

Shortly following the first one, Eve's other front tooth came out!  This one pulled by the school nurse because Eve was showing her teacher how wiggly it was.

So another tooth fairy party was assembled - with guests, this time!

And another round of notes!

Warm days means play group outside at the park!  Most weeks during the winter are at the Science Spectrum.

Cora's basically had one continuous ear infection this year and occasionally it gets bad enough that she just wants Mommy snuggles.

We've been through several rounds of ear infections with each of the girls so far this year, but as of the writing of this post at the end of February, they are all officially ear infection free!  All four at once!

Brace-less!

I think I mentioned that while Abigail was in the hospital, Eve and Halle had a brace check with the orthopedic specialist and he said their legs were coming along nicely and they should wear them until mid-February, then be done.  So we set Valentines Day as our target for brace removal.

We even made paper chains on January 1st to help us count down!

Despite our best intentions, we only made it two more weeks.  By January 14th, Eve's day braces had broken (the straps that hold them on) and both of their feet were developing gross rashes, I can only assume from the germs building up on the padding of the braces?

So we called it.  I wasn't about to have the braces replaced or fixed for only four more weeks of wear.

These girls were happy to be done!

So long, chains!

Can't stop us now!

After basically 6 months of braces, it felt so good to be done!  More so for Mom and Dad who no longer have to spend 20 minutes every morning and night doing stretches.  And so far, they're doing pretty well staying off their toes.  I never see Halle walk on hers now, and Eve only occasionally.

Yay for no surgery!
