Pre-Spring Break March

Here's a sampling of our time in March before spring break.

Eve is somehow convinced that washing dishes is a privilege, so I'm going to maintain that illusion for as long as I can. 

We did a wise man/foolish man activity as part of our study of the New Testament. We used Polly Pocket and put her on both a rock and some dirt and poured water on her. It worked! She stayed put when she was built on Christ, but kind of fell apart with the dirt. Lesson learned. Maybe.

Halle had her 100th day of kindergarten and was really unhappy about how her teacher aged everyone's pictures. She did not like seeing herself this way. (I would sleep a lot too!)

Cora loves to read! We frequently find her in the book room like this :).

Fifths x5

We had our first (and hopefully last!) outbreak of Fifths disease this spring.  I'd never even heard of it, but suddenly all the girls started having these super red, rosy cheeks and I couldn't figure out what it was!  Turns out, it was Fifths....

I didn't take a picture of Halle with it, apparently, but they all got a turn, except Seth, and Abigail had it twice, getting us to the lucky number 5. 

The pictures don't do it justice. It was so pronounced!

A couple of weeks later, Abigail got these red patches all over her body. It started on her arms, then moved down to her legs. 

The doctor thought it might be a strange manifestation of Fifths after ruling out allergies, so we got to go do blood work to verify. 

We went to BSA this time (we don't like Northwest hospital!) and they did a great job with her. The woman drawing her blood made Abigail a deal: if her blood came out green, then the woman got her snack, but if it was red (Abigail's guess), then Abigail got the snack. She still screamed when they poked her, but she quickly recovered and was thrilled to be right and get the snack! She talks about that every time she gets blood drawn now. (I think it's happened 2 or 3 times since then.)

Making a wish when we were done! Every time, she wishes for ballet slippers (thank you Greatest Showman). We'll see if we can't make that happen for her birthday.

We decided to celebrate with happy meals for doing a great job!  And she wanted to make sure Cora got one too.

I'd say let's be weird medical stuff-free for a while, but I think we all know that's not likely...

Seth's Blankie Face

Seth had a solid few weeks this spring when he ALWAYS slept with his blanket on his face.  

As of May, he hasn't been doing this, so it probably lasted 2 months? Super cute, but I'm glad he's past that - I was always worried he'd smother himself!  We stuck to light blankets during this phase....

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss and Texas!

I will catch up on these blogs! 

Saturday, March 2nd, was the double whammy - Dr Seuss and Texas had birthdays! We celebrated by going to our friends the Holloway's house on Friday for some Dr. Seuss fun :)  Just the little kids since Eve and Halle were at school.

And although we had just made one a few days earlier (I wasn't paying attention to the calendar), we made a Texas sheet cake to celebrate our great state!

It was all fun and games until chocolate got everywhere.

And celebrating anything is more fun with this cute guy around!

All Else February

Just some other stuff we did in February!

Dad helped Eve and Halle hang their letters above their beds. Now their room's official!

Seth beat Abigail at Guess Who.

My quest for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe continued....and still continues. I just can't find 'the one'! :(  But I'm determined, so we've been eating a lot of cookies lately....

We finally did Eve's crystal hedgehog science project from Christmas. It sat in the blue solution for a couple of days and grew some awesome crystals!

I've been dabbling in potty training with Cora, with moderate success. She does pretty well at home, but I still don't trust her without a diaper away from home.

Homemade bread and soup! Seems like I almost never cook anymore.

The finished hedgehog!  The crystals grew so much they covered the face!  We had to pick a few off....

We celebrated National Frozen Yogurt Day with a quick trip to Sam's Club!

Cora went through a brief superhero stage and wore a mask everywhere I'd let her, including the doctor!

Seth worked on his baby food skills.

Halle continued her art project obsession and built a haunted house with the most terrifying ghost I've ever seen peaking in the window.

The girls want to try out the Sam's Club egg chair every time we're there!

Amarillo can get chilly in February! At least Eve and I think so.

Getting better at the baby food, but still always makes this face on the first bite.

Our Christmas bulb from Grandma Larsen finally bloomed and it was beautiful!

I've been finding lots and LOTS of Abigail and Seth selfies on my phone the past few months.

So I was in a car accident the first week of February and we were without our van for 2 weeks while it was repaired. Sister Holloway from our ward was nice enough to pick Eve and Halle up from school almost every day, but there was one day she couldn't and the weather was warm enough that we walked and got the girls. It wasn't too bad, just really windy!  Turns out it's only a 15 minute walk so for the past few weeks, we've been walking to get them whenever the weather is nice!

The sun room gets nice and toasty, even in the winter, making it a great place to curl up with a book!

Abigail asked me one day, "Want to see my skirt-sy?"  Ha! Her courtesy in a skirt....get it? She's pretty clever!

And Seth is pretty adorable!

The girls got a lot of play time out of the mattress boxes before we finally threw them out.

Eve and I attended a Stake Activity Days Activity and did various stations talking about the Doctrine of Christ. In one, I had to lead her blindfolded through a maze, just whispering instructions, to represent how the Holy Ghost can guide us. A couple of bumps, but overall, I think we did pretty well!

Making bath salts (to represent repentance). Eve's table was using the peppermint scent and each girl also got a drop of eucalyptus. She didn't like how it smelled, so we added a few drops of lemon from the other table and she was quite pleased with the resultant "eucalemonmint" scent.

Abigail's latest snack creation - stacking cheerios on a pretzel stick, then popping the whole thing in her mouth!

We've been enjoying weekly singing time at the library with Miss Maggie!
