We spent several days in Colorado, and tried to pack in as much fun as possible during them!
The weather even cooperated enough that we could go outside! Which is good, because Grandma and Grandpa have a fort with swings, a slide, and everything!
On Friday night, we did the traditional homemade pizza. That was the plan, anyway - but things don't always go according to plan.
My mom's biggest mistake? Volunteering to drive someone from church to the airport and leaving me and Eric in charge of dinner. Eric made three batches of pizza dough then put them in the oven to raise. He pulled two of them out then headed upstairs to shower, leaving the third to finish rising. Except that I didn't realize the third bowl was still in - that or I forgot. It's hard to say. Things got a little hectic about then. I was trying to assemble all the pizzas and get them in the oven and my friend Natasha and her husband arrived so I was also trying to chat. Not a good combination for me, I've learned.
So I get two of the pizzas ready to bake and preheat the oven. At this point, Eric comes downstairs and asks, "Where's the third bowl of dough?".
Um....about that...
Yes, I had forgotten about it in the oven when I had turned the temp up to 425. Yes, it had cooked the bread. Yes, it had melted the bowl. Yes, it had made a huge mess. Sigh...
Luckily, there were many helping hands to pitch in! Dad cleaned out the oven, Natasha ran to the store for some pre-made pizza dough, and Eric and his girlfriend Emily cleaned the dishes. After the other dishes were done, the decision was made to put the loaf of "bread" in a bag and save it for later and to wash the bowl and put it back in the cupboard. To see how long it would take for Mom to notice.
So we got started on our meal a little late, but it was all yummy!
Andrew enjoyed lots of rootbeer :)
And yes, with a little prompting, my mom found the bowl in the cupboard that evening, heard the whole story, and got a good laugh out of it! At least she wasn't mad...
(Oh, and we turned that baked bowl of pizza dough into garlic bread and ate it with soup the next day. It was really yummy! A new secret family recipe? Maybe...)
Eve got the chance in Colorado to roast marshmallows for the very first time!
She was a pro!
Especially at eating them!
Eric teased Max - who's too old, blind, and deaf to know he's being teased anymore.... :(
Mom read LOTS of stories and played with the girls:
Grandpa got to help Eve roast more marshmallows - can never have too many of those!
All in all, a great few days in Colorado! Lots of time to eat, relax, and visit. Never as much time as we'd like, but better than none!
On Sunday, December 16th, we said our goodbyes and drove out to Layton to see Lance, Kelly, and Reagan; lots more trip to go!
