We were driving up to Boise on the 4th for the reunion that started the next morning, but that didn't stop us from going to the parade first!
I'd been explaining about America's birthday to Eve for a while and she was excited about a parade and the sky shooting colors! One thing at a time. Parade first.
Timpview Marching Band! Andrew was very emotional watching his alma mater perform. Ok, maybe not.
Halle thought her toes were more entertaining...
Eve was suitably impressed, however. And had a good view, too!
BYU! The second best part of the parade! The best was the missionaries and the standing ovation they received. The worst was when Cosmo didn't make an appearance and I'd faithfully promised Eve he'd be there. We talked for days afterward about how Cosmo forgot to come to the parade.
There was cloud cover almost the whole time we were there and we were under a tree, so we lucked out!
Both the girls got their turn on Daddy's shoulders - me next!
Fine. I'll settle for holding Halle.
Cool BYU football semi (can't wait for their game in Houston in October!), but still no Cosmo! Unless he was on the other side of the truck and we just missed him?
All in all, the parade was a hit with Eve, but it outlasted her. We made it about an hour and a half and then the meltdowns commenced and we knew it was time to head back. Just as we were leaving some group came by that had several Disney princesses, Peter Pan, and Captain Hook. Eve's first question: "Where's Mr. Smee?" We have a Peter Pan book at home that she really loves right now.
Oh, another random story. This week we were reading in the Book of Mormon about the Gidgiddoni being appointed as chief captain of the armies of the Nephites as they prepare for war with the Gadianton robbers. Andrew asked Eve what other captain we had read about in the Book of Mormon (Captain Moroni), but she thought about it and answered, "Captain Hook!".
Ok, back to our trip - I remembered to snap a picture of the Y on the walk back to the car.
After the parade, we packed up the car and made the drive to Boise with Grandma Smith. The rest of the family came up later. After arriving that night, we took Eve out to see Boise's fireworks, since again, I'd promised she could see the sky shoot colors. It was very late, so Halle stayed home and slept (under Grandma's supervision), but Eve got to stay up very late!
We only got a little lost, but finally found the location of the fireworks, and, even better, found a place to park with a perfect view out the front windshield. We just tilted back the chairs and enjoyed the show!
(Yes, Andrew was as tired as he looks, but he still was nice enough to take Eve and I to the fireworks - what a guy!)
It was a great display and Eve really enjoyed it! I think we all did! It made for a very late night, but well worth it.
Happy 4th of July!
