The girls and I headed to Broomfield for spring break this year! Andrew was stuck at home with school stuff :( I took way too many pictures, so I'm forced to divide our spring break fun into three posts.
We drove out on a Saturday and Grandpa Larsen greeted us with a cozy fire! Complete with hot dogs and marshmallows to roast!
And another fire on Sunday evening! All were intrigued by the blaze - good thing some of us can't crawl yet (or at least, can only move backwards....)
So happy to be on vacation!
The weather was beautiful all week so there was lots of play outside time! And Grandma was very generous with her swing pushing....
Homemade pasta for dinner on Sunday and we all got to help make it:
And in keeping with the homemade theme, we had Grandpa's yummy caramel ice cream for dessert. A little spoiled, are we???

On Monday, we went with Grandma and Natasha to the Butterfly Pavilion, which we've never been too!
First up, we all took turns holding Rosie the tarantula.....the girls didn't cringe at all....
Ugh - I did not want to have a turn, but Mommy made me.
Not her first time!
Off to explore everything else! Abigail was fascinated with the bees -

And then on the butterflies! One landed on Grandma and another on the stroller right off the bat. The girls were so jealous!
They tried, and tried, and tried to get one to land on them! Or crawl on them. Anything!
Cora was content to make me hold her. So much for the stroller.
The grumpy faces are because they still haven't "caught" any :(
I didn't see how she did it, but Eve finally managed to find a butterfly friend.
She let her sisters take a turn before claiming it for herself again. Luckily, this butterfly was content to walk from hand to hand without flying away.
One landed on Abigail's nose at one point, which made her shriek! It flew off before I could capture a picture.
After the butterfly room, we played in the play area for awhile.
They had these pits of dirt there, which, unbeknownst to me, housed beetle larva the kids could dig for. Yuck!!!! Abigail LOVED it. She spent basically the rest of our time digging for the worms.
Eve preferred the spider web! Especially once the huge group of field trip kids moved on.
That afternoon, Mom and I made a chocolate cake for an upcoming party on Wednesday night. We were supposed to bake it in three 9" round cake pans, but we only had one 9" and two 8" so we went with those. The girls got to use my old easy bake oven to turn the remaining batter into individual cakes! They each got to do their own:
They turned out pretty well and we got to bring my easy bake oven home, so much more fun to come from that, I'm sure!
The real, large versions of the cake had slight issues in the oven. Turns out that even without using all the batter, the 8" rounds were not big enough. The batter overflowed the pans, burned in the bottom of the oven, and filled the house with smoke. At least it didn't catch fire or trigger the smoke detectors. The part that remained in the pan turned out deliciously, though. Pictures to come in Part 3!
