Abigail started her third short round of chemo on Monday, December 30th, after a three week break for Christmas. Unfortunately, with Dad at work and school out.....
Abigail loves helping with her port injections and Brenda and the other nurses are so nice to accommodate her (as long as it's not chemo). She can do the flushes, the heparin, and the zofran.
And - hallelujah! Daddy was able to come rescue us before I had to keep all five kids for the whole day!
Eve opted to stay and see what this chemo thing was all about. From her point of view, it looked pretty awesome. Toys, prizes, order lunch, go to the play room - what's there to complain about?
She even got to help with one of Abigail's flushes.
Week 2 was on Tuesday, the 7th, and since school was back in session, it was the four of us again.

Sometimes chemo is exhausting!
Week 3 was on the 15th and seemed to go just fine!

However, that night Abigail developed a fever. I left a message with the answering service for the doctors, but didn't hear back, so just monitored her all night. In the morning, when I still hadn't heard anything, I called the office and turns out, they never got the message! They had me take her straight to the hospital immediately. And there we stayed for 6 days. Abigail tested positive for the flu and could not go home until her counts were recovering and she was 48 hours fever-free. Unfortunately, just before she hit the 48 hour mark the first time, she got another fever and a touch of pneumonia. So the stay was prolonged another few days. Overall, she did great and felt ok, we just couldn't leave. Andrew and I switched places back and forth and Aunt Lisa came to help out with the kids at home.
Getting ready for bed the first night - it had been a while since our last overnight stay in June 2019.
Abigail's snack of choice this time around was nacho cheese Doritos. I made a few trips to the vending machines downstairs until Daddy just bought her a big bag at Sam's Club. Of course, by then, she was over it and didn't want them anymore.
Some visitors to help pass the time!
Seth was worried about her!
She also begged for watermelon, which Daddy kindly went and found!
It was a long week in the hospital.
By the end, she was feeling good and was tired of being cooped up! And it showed...
Visitors always helped.
And when she finally got to go home, Aunt Lisa painted her nails!
No more hospitalizations, please!
