Finishing the Front

Thanks to Grandma Larsen, this project we started last September is finally done and looks so good! While she was here, she'd go out each morning and dig up a few rows of dirt.

It looked so cool to finally have the whole thing dug out!

Andrew went and bought fabric to lay down and a pre-emergent herbicide.

Then it was time for rocks! We found a great deal on them through the local "Rock Ranch" and only paid a couple hundred. Buying them through Home Depot would have been 2 or 3 times that much. And they even delivered them!

I thought it would take days to get them shoveled and into the front area, but with Andrew, Grandma, and Eve (post-surgery in her cast!) hard at work (I even helped shovel some!), it was all done in one morning.

Seth also was a big help.

It was so cute - he'd use the little shovel, get a scoop, then they'd always fall off as he tried to transport them to the wheelbarrow. He never got upset, though, he'd just keep trying, over and over and pick them up with his hands when they wouldn't stay on the shovel. I feel like there's a lesson in that.

The part that was left for me to do was position the gray slabs (left here by the previous owner) where I wanted them. Andrew had used them to hold the fabric in place before the rock went in.

Almost done!

And there you go! They left the slabs stacked along the top for me to get to....some day.

And it only took me a week or so before I went out one morning, spent an hour and a half and got them all spread out and inset in the smaller rock. We're pretty happy with how it turned out!

And very, very, very grateful to Grandma for doing most of it for us! Who knows how long it would have taken us to get around to it.

Now those trees REALLY need to be trimmed.
