Round 4 started on Tuesday, February 11th after another three week break. Because of her hospitalization in January, the oncologist had elected to skip week 4 of her third round of chemo and just pick things up on the next round.
Don't be fooled - she's faking. I don't think she's ever actually fallen asleep at chemo, no matter how tired she is. Cora and Seth on the other hand, both have - thankfully.
I helped Seth sanitize his hands a couple of times and after that he really wanted to get to that dispenser. Talk about a cool toy!
Week 2 was on the 18th and it ended up being a LONG day. Abigail had been having aches/pains on the back of her head, near where her tumor is. We were due for an MRI at the end of this round, but the doctor didn't want to wait and decided to do a CT scan that day, just to check things out. Which meant we were at the hospital until well past 5.
Yes, with Cora and Seth. I had to get a sister from the ward to pick Eve and Halle up from school and take them to and from the primary activity for girls that afternoon. We were all totally wiped by the time we got home.
Abigail got to ride down to the scan in a wheelchair (not optional), which she wasn't thrilled about at first. You can tell she'd been crying. But by the end of the ride, she was loving it! We tagged along with the double stroller and waited in the hallway while she went in and did the scan.
Then it was just a matter of waiting for results to see if we could go home!
Everything looked ok, so while they weren't able to determine the source of the aches, we were able to finally go home! Within a few more days, the pain had left and she hasn't complained about it since. Must have just been a fluke?
Week 3 on the 25th was also a tough one. Cora and Seth were absolute terrors and I knew I couldn't make it the whole day. By this time, I'd gotten pretty used to bringing them along and while it was always a bit of a challenge, I don't know what it was about this day that just pushed me over the top.
And lo and behold, like a miracle from heaven, Andrew showed up and took the younger two kids home. How did he know to do that? Divine intervention, I must assume!
And then a friend from the ward dropped off a package of gifts for Abigail!
Assembling the candy heart necklaces from the package.
She got to take another ride in the wheelchair this week - this time for a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia since she was coughing so much. It came back clear! Luckily Andrew had come home early since we didn't make it out of there in time to pick up Eve and Halle from school. Most weeks I can barely make it in time, or sometimes have a friend from the ward drop the girls off at the house and they punch the code, go in and eat a snack, and watch shows until we get home. We've developed quite a routine.
This week, everyone got to make a candy necklace when we got home!
Finally made it through this round with week 4 on March 3rd.
Seth enjoyed playing with the cucumber more than eating it.
And why must he always be on the nasty floor? I have to pick my battles, though.
At least these two mostly get along!
Faking it again :)
Seth, however, is not.
A couple of weeks later we did an MRI (March 17th). Way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, huh? At least it was good news - the tumor was still stable! And the Baldwins were in town for spring break, so I didn't have to bring ALL the kids with me - whew!
After a rough round 4, we were definitely ready for a two week break! And, although I didn't know it at the time, thanks to COVID, I wouldn't have to/be able to bring Cora and Seth to chemo anymore! Only one adult per child! Woohoo! (Good thing Andrew started working from home also or things could have gotten messy.) But I get ahead of myself. For now, we were just glad to put this round behind us.
