March: Post-Shutdown

The world, or at least our world, basically became 100% home centered in the middle of March. School was shut down after spring break and so was church. That's basically everything we do!

Me, meanwhile:

Grocery shopping became very strange. On one of my last trips to the store there were a lot of empty shelves. After this, we switched to Andrew doing the shopping at my OB's recommendation. There wasn't a lot of data available about COVID yet, but for the baby's safety, she wanted me to stay home.

Very surreal.

Hand soap, lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, and for some reason toilet paper became impossible to find.

Shortly after the girls' school switched to virtual, so did Andrew's work. They set up a rotation where only one attorney would be in the office at a time, with everyone else working from home. It didn't quite work out that way for him, because a lot of what he does has to be in the office, but I'd say over the past few months, he's averaged one day a week in the office.

With everything closed, Andrew decided he had time for more home projects! Our bedroom closets were first up!

They look pretty good! And I guess, technically, he'd already done his closet a few weeks ago, so it was just mine?

Lots of games and play time at home!

And really, really crazy hair that started falling out again and needed to be addressed:

Much better!

Halle basically lived in pajamas for 4 months. The virtual school thing did not go well for us. It was a nightmare to try to figure out, with each grade doing something different (paper packets, online, Zoom meetings, etc. Had anyone even heard of Zoom before all this started?)

But the good news was I convinced her to read her first LONG chapter book after just sticking with shorter ones (100 pages or so). And she loved Land of Stories! Her reading has really taken off since then and she reads tons!

Seth was willing to step up and help with yard work.

Virtual school didn't take much time each day, just lots of energy trying to figure out how to submit stuff, especially with the school changing things every week as they tried to figure out what would work too, so there was LOTS of time for play with sisters!

The teachers at the school did a drive by parade to wave to the kids and the girls loved seeing them!

Our other early quarantine win was Eve finally mastering her bike!

And Cora's been obsessed with the balance bike and is really good at it!

Thank goodness for the porch bench Andrew made! Now watching the kids play in the front yard is a whole lot more bearable for me. And they do love the front yard.

Everybody got a turn on their bikes!

We even had time for family walks!

And I'd already mentioned how quickly we all came to love having church at home!

Seth is obsessed with helping in the kitchen. None of the girls were this into it. When he sees me start cooking, he grabs a chair, pushes it over, and dives right in!

He's so handsome, we can't resist!

Bring on our new normal - lots and lots and lots of time home together. It definitely has its ups and downs.
