Round 6 started on May 5th and was memorable for all the right reasons!
The front of the hospital:
The Children's Hospital entrance:
Although both were locked down at this point and we were going around to the ER. But Abigail and Becky were working on putting together a book about Abigail's time at chemo that she could share with her class during a google meeting, so we needed pictures.
I told you she always tries to blink just as I take a picture!
But I got one open!
Ding.
This week (and a few times during these months), we were in PICU instead of the regular pediatric floor depending on patient numbers and such. This was our first week in one of the PICU rooms and Abigail was surprised by the "bathroom". We (mostly me) missed our regular rooms with private bathrooms!
Warrior selfies!
Emily doing Abigail's chemo. Madison (our absolute favorite, who quit during COVID), Emily, and Josie are our regular nurses. Then there's Brenda, the nurse at the clinic who accesses Abigail's port, Brooke, one of the head nurses in pediatrics, and Becky, the child life specialist. Our favorite people!
And Dr. Kaylani, the oncologist, of course! We're big fans of his!
Week 2 on the 12th - Abigail got a toy guitar as a prize from the clinic! Becky and Abigail did lots of 'Baby Shark' renditions on this little guy over the next couple of weeks.
This week was the google meet with Abigail's kindergarten class! Becky helped her teach her class all about chemo!
Showing the kids what a port looks like and does.
Week 3 on the 19th with the guitar in tow!
And the best of all weeks - week 4 on the 26th, Abigail's birthday! We were completely blown away by how fun everyone made the day for her. She'd been telling them for weeks she got to do chemo on her birthday (she was super excited) and no one forgot!
Brenda got her a puppy and coloring pages!
Heading into the hospital!
We were in the PICU again this week.
Emily, Becky, and Brooke are so fun!
How many kids can say they finished round 6 of chemo on their 6th birthday? This girl can!
Becky came and decorated Abigail's room!
While Face-timing with Dad, Halle pulled her loose tooth out and Abigail immediately decided her first loose tooth was coming out too! She wiggled and wiggled and wiggled it and finally just pulled it right out! It bled a lot. But she was so excited!!! How fun to loose your first tooth on your birthday! At chemo!
Everyone came in to sing happy birthday and drop off a big bag of presents! They really know how to make a kid feel special!
It was a day she will never forget and we were so grateful for everyone's kindness and generosity. I love that Abigail loves chemo and looks forward to going every week.
Then on June 9th we did another MRI. They go so smoothly these days since Brenda hooks up Abigail's port and she just watches a movie on their special glasses while they do the images. She even goes in by herself and I just wait in the waiting room.
