Chemo Round 5 and a Transfusion

Abigail's 5th short round of chemo started on Tuesday, March 24th and this time (and from here on out) it was just the two of us!

She started crying when we got to the hospital and realized we had forgotten little blankie, for the first and only time.

Becky gave her a blanket from her stash and it helped a little. She even got to keep it!

Week two was on March 31st.

Abigail always tries to close her eyes just as I'm taking pictures and she's mostly successful.

Becky stopped by to show Abigail the Make a Wish ideas she and Whitney had come up with! This was before Abigail set her heart upon Disney.

Bored of the bed:

Done for the day!

Week 3 on April 7th!

Summing up our chemo experience in two words - snacks and the tablet.

And sometimes she likes to pretend to call people on the room phone. Although really we just use it to order lunch. Which we had stopped doing by this point. After months and months of the food, and being increasingly pregnant, it just didn't sound good to me anymore, and Abigail had always been pretty picky about it. So we mostly stuck with snacks from home at this point.

We had to start using the Emergency Department entrance to the hospital, as the rest of the doors were locked down by this point.

And week 4 was on April 14th and was cold!!!

At the clinic!

Off to the hospital - good thing she wore boots this week! I vetoed the usual flip flops.

This time, she had Easter candy in her lunchbox and was super excited!

And when Becky heard that we didn't have a chance over the weekend to dye Easter eggs, she gave us two egg spinner things (invented by the uncle of one of their previous chemo patients). It's super fun and easy to use!

Also new this week, Abigail's hemoglobin levels were too low and she required her first ever transfusion. It was really weird watching the blood go into her port line.

Abigail thought it was pretty cool!

It meant another extra long day as the transfusion took an extra 2-3 hours. Then after the transfusion they had to monitor her for a bit just to make sure she didn't react adversely - which she didn't!
